Gerngross CityCenter

The Gerngross shopping center in Vienna, Austria, first built in 1879 and rebuilt from scratch several times since then, is currently being renovated in order to bring its design up to date, both, from the inside as well as on the outside.

The metal ceiling system LOOP has been especially developed for this project by durlum in cooperation with the Austrian  rchitects from 'LOVE architecture and urbanism ZT GmbH'. The architects planned the ceiling system as such that all the installations and lighting systems disappear completely behind the suspended ceiling system. While the ceiling above the star-shaped walking ways in the shopping centre had been planned as a closed surface gypsum ceiling to guide the way through the centre, the elegant metal ceiling LOOP with its characteristic roundings had been chosen to highlight the various shops left and right of the walking ways. With its characteristic roundings, LOOP provided the perfect surface to evenly distribute the variable bright spot lights used to illuminate the products for sale.
